On February 29th, the spring sports tryouts began at the Fair Grove High School. The Fair Grove softball team already prepared for their season by taking part in some open gyms to practice the fundamentals, as well as practicing different drills. With some of the returners coming back, as well as some new athletes, the Fair Grove softball team hopes to accomplish a lot this year.

Stacy Beckley, the Fair Grove softball coach, comments on how her team has been preparing for the new season. “We are returning all of our varsity starters. The senior group of girls have been pushing the other girls to work hard. The girls’ had some open gyms, which consists of pitching, throwing, catching, field and hitting during January and February.” The seniors this year consist of Baylee Beckley, Makenna Hill, Chyna Kirkpatrick and Haley Stallings.

Chyna Kirkpatrick, one of the Fair Grove seniors explains what she hopes to accomplish her senior year,” I really want our team to be able to win districts, and then go to state.” Kirkpatrick also commented that she wishes to have no errors in the field and to have a batting average over 400. Shyan Proctor, one of the varsity pitchers and third basemen, explains how she has been practicing for her sophomore season, “ As a team we have been breaking the fundamentals down so the new players can get a feel for a game-like situation. I have been playing for a traveling softball team as well, so that has also helped me individually.” One game that Beckley is especially looking forward to is against Strafford. “ Last year Strafford beat us in a tournament, but we beat them in regular season though.”

The Fair Grove Lady Eagles jamboree resulted in a win against Ash Grove (3-0), and a lost to Stockton (3-6). The team has recently played in the Sarcoxie tournament starting March 21h  through the 24th.
