Two Fair Grove teams, football and volleyball, faced off with Strafford at home. On Sep. 23rd the Fair Grove football team came away victorious with 28 points to Straffords 22. On Sep. 29th the Fair Grove volleyball team was less successful, losing to Strafford both sets.

Fair Grove football prepared for the Strafford game just like any other; Head Coach Bill Voorhis said “We didn’t start watching film over Strafford until after the Stockton game the week before.” The Eagles got off to an early lead with the end of the half score being Fair Grove 28, Strafford 14. Coach Voorhis said the team struggled with getting motivated and staying focused, but this didn’t seem to affect them too much, as they were able to hold the Indians off in the second half; ending the game Fair Grove 28, Strafford 22. The Eagles were glad to add another win, especially Strafford, to their record making it 6-0. Dalton Cloyd (12) commented “Anytime you beat Strafford it’s a success.”

Fair Grove volleyball got ready for Strafford by focusing on their rotation and what players they needed to defend said Head Coach Tonya Peck. The Eagles got off to a quick start, but they soon lost momentum and Strafford took the first set, 27-25. The second set was similar with a final score of Strafford 25 and Fair Grove 13. Tori Fishback (12) mentioned “We made simple mistakes that we couldn’t afford to make.”

Fair Grove volleyball hoped to play Strafford in the district championship, but came up short in the district semi-finals after the third set against Ash Grove.  Fair Grove volleyball ended their season 28-7-1.

Fair Grove football will play California High School in the first round of districts on Friday, September 21, at 7:00 p.m. The game will take place at Fair Grove.
