The New High School Musical Series

In 2019 Disney came out with a series called High School Musical the Musical. The show takes place 13 years after, one of my childhood favorites, High School Musical was released. The idea is the set of High School Musical is being used as a public high school in Salt Lake City. East High has just hired a new theater director and they decide to perform High School Musical at the high school it was originally shot at as a theater department. 

If I am being honest my expectations were not high, I went in ready to hate it. I did enjoy most of the songs but some were a little too cringy for me. Although it was a typical cheesy Disney Original, it did have a lot of really deep issues tangled in throughout the series. As a whole the theater department faced countless problems, the director was caught lying about her past, their stage burned down, but the characters individually went through a ton of relevant problems for teenagers lately. There was teenage heartbreak, parents divorce, parents being deployed in the military, parents getting remarried, insecurities and accepting yourself and who you are as a teenager. Disney did an amazing job portraying the fact that kids have problems too. 

There is currently a season two in the works, expected to come out in late 2020. The next season will be about them performing Beauty and The Beast.
