DECA Goes to Silver Dollar City
October 8, 2021
Fair Grove High School’s Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) goes to Silver Dollar City on October 6th, 2021.
DECA plans to go to Silver Dollar City in an attempt to gain knowledge over the inner workings of the park. Cayse Overstreet, DECA and FBLA sponsor, stated, “It will feature leaders from multiple departments on park, and they will all give inside looks into what their departments do to pull off large events, festivals, the launch of new roller coasters, etc.”
DECA did not get to go on any trips last year due to the Covid-19 virus. This was a disappointment to many of the students, according to Braden Booth (11). However, this year they are back starting with this trip. They will have to be outside and social distanced, for their safety and the workers safety.
This is DECA President, Lauren Thomlinsons (11) first time going to Silver Dollar City with DECA. “I’m excited for this trip because I will get to learn about what it takes to work at Silver Dollar City and what it takes for the launch of new roller coasters and other things,” explained Lauren. Booth is excited because they missed many trips last year and this will be the first of many for the year.
“I joined DECA to improve my public speaking skills and for college purposes,” Thomlinson remarked. Since Thomlinson has joined DECA, she has competed in competitions and has also gotten many emails and letters from colleges because of her involvement in DECA.
At Silver Dollar City, leaders from multiple departments will show the students how they prepare for events like the harvest festival. The employees will also give a behind the scene look in the rides and show the students how each ride functions.
DECA is for students that are interested in marketing and it helps students develop business and leadership skills through academic conferences and competitions, according to lewispalmer.org. DECA competitions are very competitive nationwide. There are different things to compete in. One of the events is where students are provided with problems that occur in the business world according to DECA.org.
DECA is leaving on October 6th. Many of the students are very excited to learn about how Silver Dollar City works and excited for a day at SIlver Dollar City. Booth can not wait for all the trips they plan on going on this year.
