Fluff Your Feathers And Sharpen Your Claws, The Eagles Are On Their Way To Districts!
November 4, 2021
Friday, October 29, is the Fair Grove’s football team’s first game in their football districts. This home game will be the first step for them in reaching the championship.
As the fall football season comes to an end, the football district begins. This is the official time when the local high school football teams play against one another, in bracket form, to see who has the sharpest skills on the football field and a good team to back each other up. Each new game is a chance to win, and get closer to the championship, or take a loss and not make it through the brackets.
The Fair Grove football players have been practicing for hours each day, since before the school year started, to prepare for their chance at districts. Not only is their football training physical, but also very mental. “Most of the week we look at Lamar offense and Lamar defense and Thursday we look at whoever we play. We also attended Lamar football camp over the summer. We definitely got a good look that we keep in mind,” William McMains (12) revealed.
“We still have to play Lamar, who is ranked one in our state right now. We are ranked second…” stated McMains. McMains continued to explain that there is no doubt that the football players are determined and focused on this final game.
The districts are an extremely challenging battle for the football players, but they are confident in their playing skills, like Kyle Fritts (12), who stated, “I am extremely confident in the team’s ability. I know the Coach’s are as well.”
While all of the football players are primarily focused on defeating Lamar, they know that they will also have to defeat their other competitors first. McMains explained the other schools the football team will be up against, “The district consists of Fair Grove, El Dorado Springs, Clever, Stockton, Mount Vernon, East Newton and Lamar.”
The Fair Grove Football team is ranked the second best football team in the state, with Lamar being ranked first. Winning districts would not only put Fair Grove on top, but it would break a long standing losing streak against Lamar. This final game will go down in Fair Grove football history if the eagles do win.
