Fun at the Farmers Market

This past weekend I had the opportunity to visit one of Springfield’s Farmers Markets, The C-Street Market. It was a beautiful day, and the environment on C-Street made for a great day of exploring what the market had to offer.

The C-Street Market opens up every Saturday from 9am-2pm, and on Thursday from 4pm-8pm. It’s located on Historic Commercial Street. As soon as I showed up, I was immediately greeted by the friendliest faces.

There was so much to offer- from handmade jewelry, fresh flowers, fresh produce, succulents, and plant starters, to homemade pastries, and even some cultural tents including some artwork from Africa.

One of the cool things about the C-Street Market is the Kid’s Fair. Kids from Springfield have an LLC Licensed Businesses and they sell the things they have made at the market. It was a really fun experience walking through and seeing all of the different things kids were creative enough to make and sell.

Current Fair Grove Elementary students, Lincoln Tucker and Wyatt Tucker participate in the Kid’s Fair every Saturday where they make and sell homemade popcorn in multiple flavors. I loved running into the Tuckers, and hearing about why they love selling their popcorn. “I love getting to see my family and friends come support me.” replied Lincoln, while Wyatt added, “I love making money!”

My favorite by far was the fresh flowers tent. You could get fresh flower bouquets for $10-$20, and dried bouquets for $10. All the spring was out on Saturday, and I really enjoyed getting a warm feel for the upcoming season.

I myself bought honey from the local honey tent. Growing up, my parents would always buy me multiple honey sticks at local markets, and the Fair Grove Fall Festival. Not only was this tent selling honey, but also different kinds of lotions, and soaps. While I didn’t catch the lady who was selling the honey’s name, she was one of the kindest people I encountered that day.

Fresh produce is something that I love, and there was so much at C-Street. From potatoes, lettuce, cherry tomatoes, parsley, basil, along with all kinds of fruits. I purchased strawberries and cherry tomatoes that tasted as fresh as they looked.

I encourage everybody to go and check out not just the C-Street Market, but to explore more of the city markets locally. They are such a great thing to do if you want to support your local community and agriculture as a whole.
