Serenity Davis (12) and Abigail Gilmartin (12) created a poster presentation that has won a competition for the level of information and artistry it provides and it’s on its way to state.

Amy Johnson, a Government, Geography, and Psychology teacher at Fair Grove High School, offered a competition to her senior students. They were to make a poster presenting a historical moment important to them. Once done, the poster would be entered in a contest among nearby schools. The contest was for National History Day and the theme was debate and diplomacy. The poster was rated on things like accurate information, a clear understanding of the subject, and overall presentation; part of the competition was for Davis and Gilmartin to present the information on the poster.

Davis and Gilmartin were both surprised when she learned their excellent score. She described, “We were both shocked, I actually yelled out “WHAT!!” when Abigail’s name was announced. We had thought we got fourth place at that point.” Gilmartin added, “We were both surprised that we won. We knew that we were competing against others who were pretty good.”

At this point in time, the two have competed at the state level through a virtual competition. They repeated the presentation they did previously and showed off their poster once again. Now, they wait for the results to come in to determine where they rank among other winners throughout Missouri.
