A Night for Fair Grove’s Seniors and Heroes

Seniors in cross country and football were recognized on October 7th before the football game, and military personnel were applauded during halftime at the game.
Braden Booth (12), a senior member of the cross country team, stated, “The season is going really well. This is a much stronger team than we had last year.” Booth’s personal season is also going well. He said, “This is the first year I’ve gotten through without an injury.”
When it comes to memories his favorite is, “The storytelling circle on the way home from Lamar,” stated Booth. “I think my favorite part is the camaraderie. We’re all really close as a team and that’s allowed us all to push through some very difficult times.”

The Fair Grove Football team has have found a way to fight through a tough schedule, and their current record is 5-4. Mr. Voorhis, the football coach, stated, “We’re going to miss their competitiveness in practice.” He also added that the current seniors do a great job of laying out expectations for the grades below them.
Leadership roles play a big part on the football field. Jaren Robinson (10), an underclassman on the football team, spoke about the seniors, “Cooper Roy has affected our team on and off the field. Hayden Carver shows his leadership on the field on the defensive side. Oliver Hailey, Jose Estrada, Kolby Rayman, Maddox Smith, and Blake Lewis take on roles as leaders during practice. They push us to find the best inside us and make practice competitive.”
Hayden Carver stated that his favorite part of playing on the football team is, “The community around football. Also, the bond that us boys create during the season.”

During halftime of the football game, all of the current or retired military in the audience were recognized by having them stand. The football team also ordered special camo jerseys with stars and stripes on the sleeves to further represent military personnel.
“I am honored to take the field with them in the stands,” said Carver. He said that seeing the veterans cheer for them was a feeling like no other. Robinson added, “To me, it means to show respect and recognition to the ones who have served and or are still in service. Fair Grove as a community gives thanks and appreciation to our veterans.”
