The Eagles Soar Through the Season
October 18, 2022
The Fair Grove High School Football team is nearing the end of their season, with their record currently 5-4.
The Fair Grove Eagles took a loss against the Buffalo Bison, Friday, October 7th, During the week of practices before that game, the Eagles did a lot to prepare. Carter Roy (10) stated, “As a team we’re preparing by obviously practicing over how to stop them and finding their weaknesses, but also by doing the small things in practice throughout the week, which we found out contribute to us doing the small things in games.”
Not only was preparing for the game against Buffalo huge for those playing in the game, it was also huge for the injured players such as Spensar Seiger (10). Seiger is a quarterback who unfortunately got injured early in a game against Strafford.
Spensar stated, “This week preparing for Buffalo, not being able to play is still a big job. I still watch film on Buffalo and try to point out the weaknesses and also know what formations we will be in depending on the type of offense they are running. Since I am hurt, my number one job is to be encouraging and to help Bryden understand something that I see that maybe he doesn’t.” Bryden Baxter (10), is another quarterback on the football team.
Not only was preparing for the game against Buffalo important for the Eagles, but preparing for the season as a whole was key. Over the summer, the Eagles did hard conditioning, heavy lifting, and ran plays many times. Roy stated, “Our summer program is known to be very grueling by our intense conditioning, which even though sucks at the time, I’m confident to say it helps us be in better shape than our opponent.”
Seiger also stated, “Our summer program is known to be very grueling, by our intense conditioning. Which even though sucks at the time, I’m confident to say it helps us be in better shape than our opponent.”
Coming towards the end of the season, the Eagles grow closer and closer to the district tournament. The team prepares by focusing on what they need to work on week by week rather than thinking far ahead. Seiger said, “As a team, we are preparing for districts week by week trying to focus on who the opponent is week to week. If we get ahead of ourselves, we will start over looking teams and that’s when you get beat by a team that you shouldn’t get beat to. We are also going through lots of injuries right now, so we are all trying to stay healthy or get healthy for when that time comes.”
