Fair Grove High School offers students the chance to take dual credit classes. These are advanced-level classes that can give students a head start in getting college credit.

When taking dual credit classes, students can enroll in the same course through our local community college, Ozarks Technical Community College, to gain college credit while still in high school.

Tonya Peck, high school counselor, stated, “Dual credit has a very positive impact on students. We have had many students graduate high school and already have enough dual credit classes to be considered a sophomore as they begin their college career.”

She added, “The positive impact is not only about obtaining credits to get ahead. It is also about getting these credits at a cheaper rate than what they will get once out of high school. It is a win/win!”

When it comes to dual credit classes, there are only a set few courses that are offered here. Some schools will have more than others, and it usually depends on the size of the school and whether the teachers are certified to teach college-level classes.

Mrs. Johnson teaches a few classes that offer the option of dual credit. She explained, “I think Dual Credit classes are a great opportunity for students to get college credit while still in HS.  These classes often require students to work at an advanced level and help them to prepare for their years in college.”

These dual credit classes can be harder for some students and easier for others. Mrs. Johnson stated, “I think harder classes are a great way to challenge students. Taking these courses is a great way for students to prepare for a college workload.”

“I believe that any student wanting to go to college should take Dual Credit. It is cheaper than an actual college course and they can get a great jump start on their future,” said Mrs. Johnson. In college, students are charged per credit hour. Students that enroll in dual credit classes have to pay a small percentage of this credit fee.

These classes can give students not only a leg up in high school but also start their futures early. “I believe these courses have a great positive impact on students,” stated Mrs. Johnson.

Dual credit classes are a great way for students to get an advanced education and a head start in college. For more information on dual credit courses, contact Tonya Peck.
