The Track and Field season is starting to kick off with the team having recently had their first meets of the season the first of which took place at Marshfield on March 24.

According to Coach Lindsay Martin the team prepared hard over the course of the preseason. She exclaimed, “These kids have been working hard in the preseason and now in season and gearing up for an awesome season ahead!”

Taylor Green (11) competes in Long Jump, Triple Jump, and High Jump. She prepares for these differently than a track athlete would for a running event in order to get the best possible result, “I have been preparing by working on mechanics and being more explosive. I have hefty goals set for high jump that I am working to meet in this upcoming season,” She expanded.

Green loves the environment that being a part of the track team creates. She added, “My favorite thing about being on the track team is by far the environment and experience. The bond that I have created with these girls is unbreakable.”

“We have a great mix of young and experienced kids so I am just hoping for overall growth from our team,” stated Coach Martin.

The team has many athletes despite having to compete with many other sports and activities, Coach Michael Zanzie said that he feels encouraged by the number of students that have chosen to participate, “We have been fortunate to pick up more athletes as the season progresses.  Currently we have 42 boys and 22 girls.  I am very encouraged by our girls numbers as there are two other full girl teams sports that compete during the same season; softball and soccer.  We are fortunate that several kids have chosen to compete in multiple sports in the spring.”

Coach Zanzie is in his first season as a coach for Fair Grove and he is excited to get a new start with the Eagles, “I am excited getting started with a new program.  At my previous school I competed against Fair Grove many times and often Fair Grove was some of our stiffest competition.  I cannot wait to be a part of a program with a rich tradition of success and expectation.”

Despite being new to the school, Coach Zanzie has high expectations for his team this year, “We are expecting to show up and compete at every meet.  We strive to be a better version of ourselves each and every week. As far as team goals I believe it is totally possible for us to compete for a district and conference championship.”
