Small Town Easter Fun
April 10, 2023
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) held a community-wide Easter Egg Hunt on April 1st, 10 a.m. at the Mill.
The Easter Egg Hunt FCCLA put on didn’t only feature eggs to find, but FCCLA members also set up an obstacle course for the kids (0-4,4-7, and 8+) to navigate. After the egg hunt had ended, there was an Easter Bunny there that the kids and parents could take pictures with.
“It is a community service project. It works out great because FCCLA is not financially responsible for supplying the eggs and the candy, but we supply the labor for filling the eggs and working on the day of the event to create boundaries for each age group and putting out the eggs,” Darci Friberg, the advisor of FCCLA, explained, “The Fair Grove Chamber of Commerce and other organizations help to fund the hunt.”
In addition to FCCLA kids, Ms. Perry’s Middle School Study Skills class and the Family Living class helped fill the eggs. The eggs were filled with exclusively candy. Seth Hardison (11), an FCCLA member, said, “My role in the Easter egg hunt was simple. All we had to do is set up boundaries for the Easter egg hunt and hide the Easter eggs. After the hunt we just had to take down the boundaries.” Hardison shared that this is his second time setting up the event, “We didn’t do it my freshman year because of Covid. I love putting on this event because it is just a few hours on a Saturday morning and it is a blast to do.”
Stephanie Dunham (11) is another FCCLA student who helped set up obstacles for the event. In addition to setting things up, she helped to ensure that everyone got where they needed to go and that everything ran smoothly. She commented about why she thinks the easter egg hunt is important, “I feel that an important factor to keeping a well rounded positive and uplifting community would be to host events such as this. The Easter Egg Hunt is an amazing opportunity for parents to make long lasting memories with their kids. It’s important to keep in mind that if we want to have this loving community we need to also give back to it in return. I truly think that this event was a great example of what it looks like to give back to your community and see the benefits from doing.”
