Krista Miller; a Coach and so Much More
May 12, 2023
Since moving to Fair Grove, Krista Miller has made an impact on the community, educating those who need the most help and coaching soccer for both boys and girls.
On the field, Miller’s focus is on building up the team as it moves forward and improving every game.
Miller elaborated, “This season we are focusing on small wins. Each time we step out onto the field we hope to improve on connecting passes, winning 50/50 balls (especially out of the air) and simply putting more shots on goal.”
She continued, “Moving forward, I would like to see a feeder program built. It would be great to have a 6th-8th grade soccer team that competes in Springfield, so that our athletes are coming into their freshman year with basic skills and the fundamentals of an 11 v 11 experience. This will exponentially increase our success as a team.”
Sophomore player Karla Sabata added, “She has helped me with the technical part of soccer, and she always tries to make us laugh and have fun while practicing.”
To achieve the goal of improving each day, Miller put the players through an off season program focusing on endurance and strength.
She explained, “Every year, I am learning and adding to our off season program. My first year we had a very short off season program focused mainly on endurance. This year we had a much longer off-season with endurance and strength training.”
Miller added, “Next year I plan on keeping the same time frame, but adding in a much more intense agility portion to our program and ensuring that we utilize every minute of our time allowed on the ball.”
Outside of coaching both the girls and boys soccer teams, Miller is also the Early Childhood Special Education Teacher, helping young children with delays/disabilities, and a mother of 5 children across the elementary, middle, and high schools.
She elaborated, “I have 5 kids, so that takes up a lot of time! All of my kids attend Fair Grove schools. I have a freshman, Cheyenne Miller, a 5th grader, Madilynn Miller, a 3rd grader, Adam Miller, a kindergartener, Jayden Miller, and a preschooler, James Miller.” All five of her kids play some soccer, but her boys play club soccer for Sporting Springfield.
Miller will be coaching her team in the first round of the district tournament against Richland on May 13th.
