The Best Bike Ever Made Was Discontinued

One of the overall best dirt bikes, the CR500, was discontinued in 2001. So, if this is one of the best bikes then why would it be discontinued? Honda will say the main reason it was discontinued was because they do not sell enough open class bikes for motocross to justify the build cost. They also said that open class bikes just simply went out of fashion. It must be true if the newest model in the series is 12 years old. But Honda came out with amazing news in 2020 for the motocross scene.  They said that they will come out with a new CR series bike, but sadly, they will never make another CR500.

Why was the CR500 so good? It was a super fast bike that could reach speeds up to 120 mph. For a dirt bike going 120 is stupidly fast. It was a 5 speed two stroke 491cc engine. The bike weighs 224 pounds, which is slightly higher than the average bike but you have to keep in mind that this bike was built nearly 20 years ago. It has a beautiful aluminum frame which makes the bike look 100 times better. This bike had a really high horsepower for a dirt bike coming in at 67 HP, which is a lot for a dirt bike. The average dirt bike horsepower is around 50-60, and for this bike being built 20 years ago having 67 HP is insane.

What’s it like riding such a powerful bike? The CR500 has way too much power behind it, so you will never have to use all of the bike’s potential. You normally don’t even have to go into fifth gear. I can only imagine what it would be like to hit the powerband on this bike. But with this power, the bike also has amazing handling. You can turn on a dime if you want to and you can turn most corners in third gear.  It handles better than most modern 250s.

This is overall one of the best bikes ever made, and lots of riders would love to see a new model of the bike.
