Thursday, September 23, Fair Grove Boys Soccer team held their annual Senior Night in hopes of celebrating the tremendous accomplishments of the senior boy team members.

This year, the boys soccer team will say goodbye to 5 seniors: Dalton Roberts, Daniel Tennison, Preston Kothenbeutel, Andrew Shurtz, and Josh Orr. Team Captain Andrew Shurtz plays center mid for Fair Grove, as well as center back. Shurtz has been playing soccer for most of his life; he plans to continue his soccer career in college. Shurtz shared, “My favorite thing about the soccer program is the camaraderie.” He then added, “I am most excited for later in the season and going into districts.”

Daniel Tennison plays center back, along with right and left wing. Tennison has been a part of the soccer program for three years. He explained, “My favorite thing about the soccer program is the bond they have. Also, getting out of school early for games is pretty nice too.” Tennison also expressed his enthusiasm for the future season starting, “I am excited to go to districts, and hopefully win.”

Team Captain Josh Orr has been a part of the soccer program for four years; he played with the high school indoor team throughout middle school and played throughout the soccer academy in his childhood. He plays center mid for offense and defense, as well as a distributor. Orr stated, “My favorite thing about the soccer program is that everyone gets along well for the most part. There’s a lot of newer players this year and something really helpful is that most of them can take constructive criticism and apply it to their game.”

Orr spoke on his goals and exhilaration for the team. He claimed, “I’m excited to keep helping the team get better, also to as a team make smarter decisions with the ball, to enable us potentially, win districts, and go on from there.”

Although the program will have to say their goodbyes to the seniors shortly, the current juniors will be able to step into leadership and underclassmen can take on bigger roles next year to follow in the footsteps of the talent lost. The boys play against Marshfield at home on October 7th.
