Monroe Coffee Co., a new business opening in Fair Grove, reached out to Fair Grove High School’s Art Club to paint a mural of their logo in their shop.

Anna Sutherland, the owner of Monroe House, commented on why the Art Club was their team’s best choice to decorate the coffee shop. “We wanted to partner with the Art Club because we knew they would do a great job, but also because we wanted to make our coffee shop very community focused,” Sutherland explained. The coffee shop is located at 71 S. Main Street in Fair Grove, just a short distance from the school.

The mural will be a central part of the decor in the shop. “It’s on the main wall in our coffee shop, it draws your eye in whether you’re coming in from outside or if you are coming in from the boutique,” Sutherland described. Because it takes up the whole wall, the Art Club members needed to have a specific approach to start painting it.

“First we had to project it onto the wall and sketch it out,” stated Preston Kothenbeutel (12), one of the members who helped work on the mural. He described the rest of the process, “We took black paint and went over it multiple times to create a dark contrast. Finally, we cleaned it all up and did the detail work last.” About eight people have been working on the project; this whole process took the Art Club about two weeks to complete.

The team at Monroe Coffee Co. have been quickly preparing to get the shop ready for its grand opening on October 9th. “We’ve been working around the clock to get everything finished. There was so much to do and we were in a time crunch. Our goal was to be open for the Fall Festival then do a big grand opening celebration!” Sutherland explained. Sutherland also commented that there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony on October 9th.

The Monroe Coffee Co. will be open from 6 am to 4:30 pm on weekdays, and from 7 am to 2 pm on Saturdays. “We want everyone to come grab something to eat or drink and know that you are welcome here,” Sutherland said, “The students have taken great pride in their work and have been so detail oriented. It looks amazing!”
