Ryken Adkins (12), Andrew Faubion (12), and Savanna Luna (11) filming a video for their Digi-Comm segment.

Digi-Comm or Digital Communications, a class taught by Mr. Supancic, is tasked with creating weekly videos to report on events that have happened or inform of events happening in the upcoming future.

Digi Comm is a class for sophomores through seniors; students are tasked with making a video relating to an assigned topic that usually corresponds with events throughout the community or school. At the end of the week all of the videos that have been created are combined into one to create the weekly Friday video.

The students in Digi-Comm acquire a lot of skills through taking this class. Devin Carroll (12), said, “I have definitely learned how to work Adobe Premiere Pro (the program we use for making the videos) a lot better. I have also learned about how to work with others a lot better in this class too.”

The videos that Digi-Comm makes are not only informational, but also entertaining to watch. Katilyn Mueller (11), stated, “Seeing all of the fun videos in the past made me want to be a part of it, I wanted to be in the class and create the videos.”

There is more than just filming and editing that go into making a Digi-Comm video though, Mueller explained, “I think the hardest part about making the video is finding a sequence for it and figuring out how it should flow.” Kameron Green (11) added, “The hardest thing about making a video is coming up with your story line.” Green elaborated that in a video it is important to not only provide accurate and pertinent information, but also to create something that people can enjoy while watching.

Students also like the environment of the Digi-Comm class, Green said, “My favorite part of Digi-Comm is the environment. In the classroom you are able to bounce ideas off of everyone and give and receive feedback.” Green also added, “It has also made me start planning more so I can make sure I am getting my video finished.”

Amongst all of the challenges the students have faced and new skills they have had to learn, there are also things about the class that the students enjoy. Digi-Comm can give a rewarding feeling when making the videos, Mueller remembered, “My favorite part is when I finish a video, it’s like a breath of fresh air. Everything finally comes together and you are able to see what you created.”
