The Fair Grove Middle School Football Team recently wrapped up their season on Thursday, October 21st; the season has ended with the team winning 8 out of the 10 games played.

Carson Trussell (8), plays wide receiver and corner. Trussell shared, ¨My seventh grade year we did not play our best, but this year we had a great season and it fulfilled all of my goals.¨

Eron Daugherty (7), left nose guard and center back, revealed the team’s goals. They aimed to not only win their games, but work harder than the other team both on and off of the field. Daugherty stated, “I think I did a good job completing both the goals, as well as keeping up with them.”

Trussell and Daugherty spoke of the bond it has given them and their families. Trussell commented, “I can’t wait for high school football, my dad played and I would like to follow in his footsteps.” He then added, “I want to play well, but more importantly I want my team to value me as a player. I hope to earn that respect.” Daugherty stated, “I grew up in a football family and ever since I was able to play, I did. It ended up being something important and dear to me.”

Desiree Labaw (8), is a cheerleader on the middle school cheer team and plans to continue cheer in high school. Labaw said, “I would say my favorite part of the football season would be seeing everyone get together and watch the game. I love seeing everyone work together to create a good game and play well.”

Many eighth graders are hoping to be joining the high school team next year for football and cheer. These kids include: Jackson Austin, Gavin Bills, Carson Trussell, Jackoby Mcdonnald, Cooper Morgan, Payton Gann, Gage Green, Gage Bailey, Dylan George, Brody Harden, and Randy Hodges.

Trussell explained that he is eager to see what his high school experiences will look like, but is still grateful for the opportunities that playing football in middle school has given him.

Trussell also elaborated that it has been great to have a winning year for his last year of middle school but that, “My favorite thing about this season was playing with such a great team…”
