Cindy Sparks and her fourth grade music classes have been preparing for their upcoming music performance, “In America’s History.” This musical performance will be performed on February 25, 2022.

The students have been preparing each week during their morning music time to perfect their program. Sparks stated, “My favorite part of working with these kids is watching them make a connection with the history of our country through music.”

This program not only gives students the opportunity to learn more about our country’s history, but also learn more about music and its effect on that history. Sparks expressed, “I really like this program because it teaches us all how important music is in our country’s history.”

These students will be singing songs such as “Fifty Nifty United States,” “God Bless America,” and “This Land Is Your Land,” along with many others. The performance will also include visits from George Washington and his wife Martha, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Betsy Ross, Irving Berlin, along with others with students acting in the present time.

These performances often bring joy to the students and to the audience. Hadison Wingo (11), who experienced many of these performances personally, said, “I loved the singing and I loved how it made people laugh. It made me realize that I wanted to stay involved with music in the future.”

The joy of this program though would not be possible without the work of Sparks. She has brought joy to many kids, along with giving them the courage to pursue music. Wingo mentioned, “These performances were some factors of what made me want to continue pursuing music. It was a lot of fun and I always associate these good memories with elementary music.”

Wingo expressed, “She was my choir teacher in third and fourth grade and made music so much fun. She’s also the accompanist for the High School Choir, and along with the director, she helps me be the best I can be vocally.” Sparks has influenced and encouraged  several different students to carry out their musical careers like she did with Wingo.

Sparks stated these kids are fun to work with and she really enjoys her time with them. She expressed that she learns something new nearly every day that she spends with her students.
