Jason Buschman started working as the counselor in the Fair Grove Elementary School around four years ago and he has been making a big impact on kids at the school ever since.

Buschman’s job includes a lot of different things on a day to day basis. Buschman shared, “It’s a pretty action-packed job, I could be teaching counseling lessons or counseling students individually or in a group and there’s a lot of other things I do with registration and testing. It’s honestly just a little bit of everything.”

Buschman loves his job because of the relationships he gets to build with the students of Fair Grove. “I love whenever I’m counseling or teaching and you can see a student fully understanding something and making progress. Seeing that progress and watching them learn and grow and get better at whatever it is we are working on is just one of my favorite things about this job,” he commented.

Lawson Boyer was a new student in the elementary school this year. Buschman gave him a tour of the school shortly before his first day of third grade and Boyer says it was very helpful for him. “I know that he really cares about his students. When he gave us a tour we weren’t sure where to go but he met us at the door. He told me about what my day would be like and made me feel better about starting at a new school,” he described. Boyer also added that when he ever needed help knowing what to do or where to go, especially in his first few weeks, he could always go to Buschman for help.

Boyer says Buschman is still involved in his school day in a lot of ways. “He comes to our class and gives us lessons. They are on things like what jobs people can have, or feelings and how to control your anger. Also, at the end of school he stands outside and helps kids cross the road,” he mentioned.

Buschman really values his connections with his students and you can see his impact on the elementary school wherever you go.
