Fair Grove schools are welcoming a lot of new students this year and to help make them feel more at home, the Fair Grove staff hosted a new student breakfast, the morning of September 9th.

During the new student breakfast, the students got to eat and chat with each other. Karla Sabata (10), a recent foreign exchange student from Spain explained, “We had biscuits and gravy for breakfast, my first time eating that!” She then continued, saying, “We talked about how life can be different in other countries and how the students were liking Fair Grove High School so far with Mr. Overstreet and Mrs. Peck.”

Kelly Holsteen (11) stated, “I had fun talking about the reason why I moved here, with a girl that I have a few classes with.” Getting to meet new people and make new friends was a big reason for having the new student breakfast.

The relationship between students and the staff seem to be making a lot of the new students’ transitions easier. Sabata explained, “Everyone is very nice and helpful, the relationship between the teachers and students is close and that makes studying easier and more comfortable.” Furthermore Holsteen continued that she likes that the school is smaller and that the teachers are nicer. The size of the school may not always be small though, Mrs.Workman, the Fair Grove High School secretary, said that Fair Grove has twenty-seven new students in the high school alone.

Of course there are always setbacks being in a new environment. Sabata said, “The only thing I struggled a little bit when I got here was homesickness, I haven’t ever been away from my family so it was quite hard.” Destiny Ewing (9) also had her own setbacks saying, “It was hard to say goodbye to my friends in my other school.” Nevertheless, the transition into Fair Grove was seemingly easy for some of the new students. Sabata said, “Everyone made everything easy.”

Some of the new students seem to be getting comfortable at Fair Grove. Even the learning part in Fair Grove seems to be easy for them. Sabata had said, “Its educational system is a fun way of learning.”

With the help of the new student breakfast, the new students have transitioned easily into the Fair Grove schools and seem to have found their place at their new school.
