Fifth Graders Rowing Along

November 2, 2022

Mrs. Harmon’s fifth grade music class transformed into pirates on October 18th for their annual musical performance for teachers and parents.

The Musical is called Pirates! by John Jacobson and Roger Emerson. Payton Martin (5) explained the performance is about pirates and a stowaway on an adventure. Mrs. Harmon has been doing these performances for about six years now, and she has multiple musicals she switches back and forth from so that none of her quarter classes perform the same musical.

Mrs. Harmon feels that everyone enjoyed the performance, “The students really like this musical and have gotten into becoming pirates.” She continued, “I love giving the students an opportunity to perform. This is one of my favorite musicals to produce with the kids.”  Louella Gore (5) agreed, “I like to sing and we got to sing a lot of songs.”

Parents also really like the musical, “My dad was really excited,” expressed Martin, “I could hear my sibling yelling my name.”

At first Gore was nervous that they weren’t going to sing loud enough and miss a few parts of the songs. She said many of the kids were a bit shy. However, she and Martin felt it went really well. “Everyone was loud and proud,” stated Martin.

Mr. Barker’s stagecraft class helped out with the stage and props. Natalie Nolan (12) exclaimed, “I am excited to see how this show goes because we did make some things for this show and I am ready to see them in action!” Mrs. Harmon added, “I cannot wait for the kids to see all of the awesome things they have created.”

The fifth graders and Mrs. Harmon had lots of fun with this musical and were really proud of  themselves.
