The Fair Grove area Girl Scouts troop is currently led by Whitney Hyde, who is a teacher in the elementary.

The troop participates in many activities put together by the Girl Scouts Council. Some examples provided by Troop Leader Whitney Hyde are, “Attending an astronomy night at the Observatory in Fair Grove, Visiting an Alpaca Farm in Rogersville and going on hikes.”

This troop is open to all girls in the area, even if they don’t attend Fair Grove Schools. Mrs. Hyde explained further, “Our troop was started several years ago to give girls with varying abilities the opportunity to be involved in Girl Scouts. Our troop is a multi-age group which means we have girls from kindergarten through 12th grade.” Two of the girls in the troop go to Fair Grove.

Two girls in the troop who go to Fair Grove are second grader Savannah Rand, and fourth grader Violet Kissee. Rand is in her first year with the Scouts. She stated that her favorite part of being in the group is “making stuff and doing crafts.” Kissee has been with the group for five years and loves earning the badges.

“Our troop meets once a month. We are currently involved in Cookie Season. The girls have worked hard to sell cookies and we will begin Cookie Booth Sales soon,” Mrs. Hyde said. She continued, “At our monthly meeting, we work on different activities for the girls to earn badges. These badges are things like: Jewelry Badge, Cooking Badge, Investigator Badge and many more!”

There are many reasons to join the Scouts. “Our troop offers girls the opportunity to meet girls from other areas and be involved in activities that they may not otherwise have the opportunity to do! It also helps parents build a “network” and gives them the opportunity to have some 1:1 time learning with their girl!” shared Mrs. Hyde.

It is currently cookie season for the Scouts and the Fair Grove troop has been hard at work getting ready to begin sales. Mrs. Hyde expanded, “We are currently involved in Cookie Season. The girls have worked hard to sell cookies and we will begin Cookie Booth Sales soon.”

The most recent meeting took place on Valentine’s Day. According to Mrs. Hyde, they worked on earning a new badge, talking about healthy and unhealthy eating habits, building healthy plates, and playing some games involving healthy eating.
