The volleyball season has started up and the Lady Eagles Volleyball team is undefeated so far with a record of 9-0. The team dominated their first home game against Logan-Rogersville, with a score of 3-0 on September 6, 2024.
The Lady Eagles ended their season last year with a Class 2A state championship and a record of 36-2-1. The team has been preparing for this season for quite a while. They have been mostly preparing in the off months, involving themselves in camps and groups for the sport. “We had our summer weights program and have attended multiple camps and leagues throughout the summer,” Tonya Peck, the head volleyball coach said. “We want the chance to make a postseason run, which includes working for a district championship and making a final four appearance,” Peck added.
Peck said that she has a bright outlook for the team this year. She explained, “In the volleyball program, we set big time goals and always have high expectations. This year is not any different! We want the chance to make a postseason run, which includes working for a district championship and making a final four appearance.” Brooke Daniels (12) has a positive attitude about the possibility of a postseason run this year. Daniels said, “Last year we won the state championship and I have no doubts that we are capable of doing it again this year.”
The starting lineup for the Lady Eagles Volleyball team is Daniels, Shea Skouby (12), Ashton Bell (12), Abbey Green (12), Emaley Stallings (12), Greta Arnett (12), and Sofee Garrett (11). Garrett is the only Junior on the Varsity team this year. Last year she mainly played on Junior Varsity. “This year I’ve been expected to play front and back row on varsity which is a big switch from last year when I played varsity just a little bit,” stated Garrett.
The girls have prepared for this season by playing club volleyball during the offseason, a common theme for most of the girls on the team. Peck said, “Most of the girls play club volleyball in the off season (winter months).” Garrett concurred, “Club volleyball has greatly prepared me for this season because it got me used to different positions and just gave me more chances to play volleyball.”
The girls are especially excited to see what they are capable of doing this season. Daniels said, “The group of girls that we have this year is super special and the love that we share for each other is what makes our bond so great.” The next home game will be on October 1, 2024 against Hollister at Fair Grove High School.
