Fair Grove Middle School has launched their athletic program as the fall season begins. The volleyball, football and cross country teams are all gearing up to face their competition.
The middle school volleyball team, coached by Katie Fender, is currently holding up a record of 5-1. Fender says, “The season is off to a great start,” she explained. “I can see much improvement since day 1 of practice, especially with fundamentals,” Fender added. Fender also commented on the strengths of the incoming seventh graders, and highlights her confidence in a really strong season. Their next home game will be on October 3rd, where they will play against Clever.
Karis Peck (7), Dia Draper (7), and Addie Miller (7), are a few of the players that will be taking big leadership roles for the Volleyball team this season. Fender comments, “The girls are in the gym every day after school getting touches on the ball.” Fender says that Miller will be a defensive leader, and Draper and Peck will be leading the team in setting.
Marc Green, one of the Middle School football coaches along with William Reed, said, “Our kids have been working really hard in practice.” With only six games on the schedule, Green says that it is important for them to play well each week. With a current record of 1-2, and three more games on the schedule, the coaches are hopeful for a successful rest of the season.
The Football team has over 40 players this year, between the seventh and eighth grade teams. Green says, “I expect both teams to compete at a high level and play hard each week.” They have a full seventh grade team this year, and Green highlights that they are ready to play and working hard at practice every day.
The Cross Country team is starting their season with a competitive outlook. Current coach Jalen Supancic said, “The middle school teams are setting goals to compete and place at the Middle School cross country championships at the end of October.” He also adds that they are hoping to compete for conference champions as a team.
All coaches of the three teams are confident in successful seasons. Fender commented, “We want our players to have fun and love playing volleyball for Fair Grove.” Volleyball, Football and Cross Country alike are entering the middle of their seasons.
