The elementary school has seen a change in their front office. Holley Johnson became the Elementary School Secretary at the beginning of the 2024 – 2025 school year.
For those who may not know Mrs. Holley, she gave a quick introduction of herself. She said, ¨Holley Johnson. Born and raised in Fair Grove, attended the school K-12. Subbed for 17 years before accepting the position as elementary secretary. 3 kids, Reagan – freshmen at College of the Ozarks, Logan – daughter in 8th grade, Tegan – son in 6th grade. ¨
Johnson was mainly known as a substitute. Elementary Secretary is her first official and full time position within the district.
Between the two positions Johnson has held there are notable differences. She commented on her main responsibilities, ¨Main responsibilities for my position are answering the phone, and answering all questions that are sent my way. Transportation changes in the elementary school are the bulk of the daily grind.¨ Johnson added, “I record the attendance and check on kids that are absent that we haven’t heard from their parents. Transferring students in and out of the district in the elementary building go through my hands. I also try my best at keeping the community informed of all events that are happening in our building and district wide that apply to us.¨
During her time as a substitute, Johnson filled in as the Elementary Secretary. Coach Buffington noted this when talking about her transition. He stated, ¨The transition has been very smooth. Mrs. Johnson has served in this position on multiple occasions, allowing her to quickly acclimate to the role. Although there were some aspects she needed to learn, she demonstrated a strong willingness and the ability to grasp new concepts rapidly.¨
Buffington also mentioned how she seamlessly integrated into the staff. Johnson backed this by saying that her main focus is now on the staff and parents; unlike in her student focused position as a substitute.
Johnson finished off by answering her most asked question, ¨I have been asked multiple times why I would choose to step away from substitute teaching and take on this new role. My answer is this, Fair Grove School is a special place to me.¨ She added, “Since 1992, I, personally, have been connected to the district in one way or another. There is no other place that I could see myself working every day! Fair Grove is a family, and I’m proud to continue to be a part of it.”
