Fair Grove Student Council, also known as STUCO, is a club that students take part in. This club is for students who would like to impact their community at Fair Grove’s school and their town as a whole.
Students from all grade levels are able to get together and plan out activities such as dances, assemblies, and also spirit weeks. Keith Nolan (12) STUCO’s Student Body President stated, “The Student Council has many goals this year. One of the main ones is that we are trying to develop a new culture for the overall club. We are wanting to show students and community members that the Student Council is for everyone, always.”
STUCO has many roles in their club. Atticus Brandes (12), a member of Stuco, looks forward to seeing the dance themes this year. Brandes said, “I like being in this club to connect with more people. It helps me to get to know more faces during the school year.”
Nolan further explained his role in Stuco. His job is to plan meetings and set up committees, and also to set the mood of the club. Nolan looks forward most this year to Courtwarming the most this year. His reasoning is because it is the last dance of the year that Stuco is able to plan.
Michael Van Cleave, the faculty supervisor for Student Council said, “Our goals this year are the same as every year; put on great events and raise school spirit!”
Van Cleave also added that his favorite part of Stuco is hanging out with students in a different area outside his classroom. The students are ready to pick out themes for their dances, “Our most important events are Homecoming and Courtwarming,” Van Cleave said.
For both Homecoming and Courtwarming, there is a template to help Stuco members plan and coordinate these events, said Van Cleave, ¨ For each event Stuco decides on a theme, spirit days, a pep assembly, a ceremony to crown our queen, and a dance. We also decorate for the first day of school and plan a holiday assembly before winter break. ¨
Van Cleave spoke about his favorite event, ¨I think my favorite event is Courtwarming. The kids always plan such cool decorations for the dance, and it’s fun to watch it all come together.¨
STUCO is an organization that is here to help not only the students of Fair Grove, but also the community of Fair Grove as a whole.
