The Fair Grove Annual Elementary Grandparents Day occurred on October 4th. This event was set in the Elementary Gym, as the grandparents of the little eagles flocked into the school gym for one special performance.
Every year, Fair Grove Elementary has a day set to allow the students’ grandparents to attend a very special day that is full of activities and snacks that is prepared by teachers and staff members. Elementary Principal Charity Hollan states, “Grandparent’s Day is one of the best days of the year!” Charity continued, “A lot of organizing goes into a successful day. The music department prepares a music program, classrooms prepare activities, and the kitchen assists with providing cookies.”
Not only do the grandparents and students enjoy this day, but the teachers and staff also like it too. Elementary Kindergarten teacher Toni Robertson said, “I love to see how excited the kids get when they see their grandparents come to their school. As well as seeing how grandparents light up around their grandchildren.” Elementary Music teacher Heather Lumley followed with, “Grandparent’s Day is such a wonderful day where we open our school up to hundreds of people in our community and beyond.”
Mrs. Lumley also mentions, “Grandparent’s first start out in the gym listening to a program their grandkids have prepared for them. Then they usually go visit their grandchild’s classroom to do an activity.”
All staff members get together and try to plan a special day not only for the students but also for the grandparents attending. Mrs. Toni said, “We come up with ways to show appreciation to the grandparents. We make cards or crafts, and our amazing Mrs. Lumley helps the children perform by singing songs to the grandparents. Mrs. Toni adds, “The wonderful kitchen staff bakes yummy cookies for all of our grandparents, and the children to enjoy while they are visiting in the classroom.”
Mrs. Lumley adds, “This year the First graders, Kindergarteners, and Preschoolers put on a program for their grandparents at 9:00 am. Later in the evening, the older children perform their songs at 1:00 pm. Mrs. Lumley mentioned, “At 1:00 pm, our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders will be joining together to put on a program for their grandparents. This program will be a little longer because the students are able to learn longer songs and longer speaking parts.”
Mrs. Lumley added, “There is nothing sweeter than listening to little kiddos sing their little hearts out. Their songs are simple, but heartfelt.”
Grandparents Day for Fair Grove was a heartfelt day, and another successful year according to the Fair Grove Community.
