Fair Grove High School boys and girls basketball, and wrestling have all started their preseasons to prepare mentally and physically for their upcoming 2024-2025 season.
The Fair Grove Girls Basketball team started their preseason on October 4th. The team consists of 22 players, with eight of them being seniors. Those seniors are Abbey Green, Ashton Bell, Brooke Daniels, Camdyn Hart, Emaley Stallings, Emma Padgett, Meadow Carter, and Shea Skouby
Padgett explained, “Preseason prepares us for the season by giving us a head start on some of our shooting and making sure we get the little things right before games start to roll around. Also with conditioning and going from not playing a sport to starting basketball season it gives us a good warm up and foreshadowing towards the hard work that’ll be put in when the season comes.”
The first official game of the Fair Grove High School Girls Basketball season is in the Fair Grove tournament that will happen from December 2nd to December 6th. The team will also play in the Marshfield Jamboree on November 9th.
Hart shared, “I feel very excited about this upcoming season. I think we have the chance to get a three-peat on state championships. However we still need to do what we normally do and work hard because it definitely won’t be handed to us.”
The Fair Grove Boys Basketball team started their preseason in the earlier parts of September. Senior, Kyle Winterberg said, “We have around 20 guys on the team.”
There are eight seniors on the Fair Grove Boys Basketball team: Atticus Brandes, Brock Boatwright, Bryden Baxter, Kellan Kirkpatrick, Kellen Lair, Kyle Winterberg, Sam Kennard, and Spensar Seiger.
Brandes said how they need to get ready for pre-season, “I feel as if the upcoming season could be very successful. We just have to put the time and effort in.”
The Fair Grove Boys Basketball team’s first game is the Clever Tournament on December 2nd.
For the first time in Fair Grove High School the wrestling team has their first preseason that started on October 7th, and there is no set team yet. The coaches are Bill Voorhis, Chris Holt, Cole Johnston, and Natalie Palomo.
Palomo said, “We’ve had a variance of numbers so far, so it’s hard to predict exactly how many will be on the team in the end. We have had meetings with more than 30 kids who were interested, so hopefully we have lots of kids join!”
Preseason consists of learning the basics of wrestling and preparing physically for the wrestling season. At practices the team has gone over stances, grips, takedowns, and other wrestling knowledge.
The wrestling season starts on November 11th, and the first scheduled event is a scrimmage on November 29th. Palomo exclaimed, “Anyone can still join wrestling! Preseason is Mondays from 6-8 a.m. and Thursdays from 6-7 a.m., and we’d love to encourage people to give it a shot!”
