The Fair Grove High School Volleyball team concluded their season on Saturday, November 9th at the Class Two State Championship in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. The volleyball team finished their season with a state championship win and a record of 41-0.
Fair Grove started their season in August and they stayed undefeated throughout the entire season. To secure the state title, Fair Grove went head to head with Bishop LeBlond with a win of 3-0. At the end of the season, the volleyball team secured the title of state champions and the winningest team in the history of Missouri.
Coach Tonya Peck, Fair Grove High School Volleyball Coach explained, ¨Words truly can’t describe the surreal feeling of another state championship. We knew going into this season that we would have to replace three amazing seniors from last year. But we also knew that getting back to the final four was an attainable goal. These girls put in the work, loved and supported each other, and made it happen!¨
Fair Grove fought hard to win the state championship on Saturday. Early in the first set, Bishop LeBlond took the lead four to one. Fair Grove then gained its lead by 11-10. After Bishop LeBlond tied at 11, Fair Grove put on six straight points to complete the set. Fair Grove would then sweep out Bishop LeBlond for the championship win.
Winning two state titles back to back can feel a little surreal, Greta Arnett, senior volleyball player said, ¨It feels amazing to be in such a competitive sport and win two state titles.¨ Shayla Haddock, junior volleyball player, added on to that, ¨It feels so good to know I am a part of the team that has won. I am so proud of them, and they did so well throughout the season.¨
Haddock mentioned that Peck is to thank for a large part of their accomplishments, ¨…She is the one that developed these players and outsmarted the other teams. She studied film, and found the other team’s weaknesses, and we used that to our advantage throughout the season.¨
This volleyball season had impacted many of the players on the team, Haddock said, ¨ I have grown so close with this group of girls, and it is such a wonderful experience because of how kind and fun everyone is. I also love the competitive environment that there is when we step into the gym together.¨
Arnett added on, ¨This season was special because it was my senior year. Honestly, to know that I wouldn’t have one more season with this great group of girls was truly hard to believe. But, I made the best of it, and enjoyed every second.¨
It took everyone to achieve this end goal, said Peck, ¨They are an unselfish group that loves celebrating the person next to them. It took the entire team for us to be successful. They have an immense pride in putting on the purple and white and competing for this school and community! I hope that others can see that it is worth it to buy in, love others, and fight for your dreams & goals!¨
