On November 5, 2024 multiple students from Fair Grove High School went out to vote for the first time.
Voters would be able to find different voting stations around their communities. Voters could go to one of these stations to cast their ballot and express their opinion on who they think should be in our government offices.
Abbey Green (12) was a first time voter. She said, “It was a new setting for sure. A lot of elderly people were there, and they for sure knew what they were doing. It was a little nerve wracking to walk into an enclosed environment and vote for the next president for the next four years. I was also excited though.”
As it was their first time voting some of them were excited for the new experience of voting for the country. Mikala Angelo (12) stated that she was excited to be able to vote for the first time. She believes that it is super important to vote and to give your opinion and become more educated.
Green also stated that she was excited to vote. She said that it was something that she has been looking forward to since she was a kid. She continued that she feels good to be making an impact within our country.
Many people in America decided that they don’t want to vote in the elections for various reasons. According to Pew Research center, around two thirds of the voting eligible population cast their ballot for their opinion to be taken into consideration.
Some of the first time voters think that everyone should cast their vote in the election. Angelo said, “I think that everyone’s vote matters and you should vote because when it comes down to it you are a voice for change in our country.”
Green also agrees that everyone should vote. She stated, “Yes, I believe that when you are allowed to vote and are educated in the process then you should vote because you are making an impact.”
While it was the first time that many students have voted they may have found some things surprising. Angelo stated that she was surprised by the few numbers of voting stations there were to cast their ballot at.
Green stated that she thinks the whole process is self explanatory. She also said that she loved the stickers that the elementary students had made for the election.
