Fair Grove High School girl’s volleyball team has made history, securing its second consecutive state championship title. This victory marks their two-year streak of state championships and hope to continue the legacy.
Last year, they concluded their season against Herman on November 4th, 2024. The players express that this victory placed a huge target on their backs coming into this season, but that only encouraged them to play harder this year.
Sofee Garret (11) said, “Every team we went against wanted to beat us and played the best they could because they wanted to be the team to take our record.”
This year, they finished their season against Bishop LeBlond on November 9th at Cape Girardeau, Missouri. They won with a score of 3-0, confirming their two-time championship.
Kynlee Peck (10), the varsity manager and a junior varsity player, explained, “Knowing we could do it, and then realizing that we had was just really amazing.” She also describes that the whole team was extremely excited and how surreal it felt once she, and the whole team, realized that they had won.
Coming into this season, there were high expectations on the team since they won state last year. Garret (11) said, “Since we won last year, we were expected to be good and make it again.”
Despite the difficulty, they continued to remember the feeling of victory from the year before, and were determined to win again. The players express that it took a calm mindset to play like they did in the championship, and over the season their focus was to prioritize one game at a time before moving onto the next.
The team’s hope for the next season is to continue that feeling of victory, and work hard each day to keep their winning streak.
Over the season, their record was 41-0. Last year, their ending record was 35-1-2. The team has improved drastically over the span of the year, and have hopes to continue to do so. Garret (11) shared, “I am so proud of us and the players that we have all become over the years.”
Fair Grove volleyball has once again proven themselves to be a talented team. With two back-to-back state championships, they hope to continue their success and improve even more with the seasons to come.
