On December 5th, the Fair Grove Middle School Theater put on a performance in the Elementary Gym. The performance consisted of the play ‘10 Ways to Survive The Zombie Apocalypse.’
Many elementary students and teachers explained they had fun going to watch it. One of Fair Grove’s 4th grade teachers Marshall Groves stated, ¨I thought it was a really fun play. The kids were really into it. It was exciting and something a lot of elementary students would be interested in.¨ Another 4th grade teacher Christina Snitker also shared,¨It was obvious by the laughs from the audience that the students found it funny.¨
The middle school theater performance not only consisted of the Middle Schoolers, but it had a various amount of staff helping along with it. This includes Fair Grove High theater teacher Leroy Barker, high school students Emma Pearson (12), and Maddox Dodd (11). Pearson and Dodd shared the role of directing the middle school performance alongside Barker.
The help received from high school students is not new to middle school theater. High school theater students usually help the middle schoolers when it comes to the middle school performances. Pearson stated, “I love seeing the young kids who are going to be taking over theater in the future once the high schoolers are gone.” Pearson continued, “The most important part is definitely coaching them to become good actors and prepare them for high school theater.”
Middle theater is shared to be one of the great ways to be social and make new friends at Fair Grove. Theater student Madisyn Evans (7) stated, “My favorite part is being friends with people I probably wouldn’t have met outside of theater.”
The theater program is also one of the many ways that students could get involved in school activities, this program is not only a shared culture, but an official extra circular for Fair Grove Middle School students. Ila Mackinney (7), a middle school theater student stated, “My favorite part is the feeling of being a part of something.”
Fair Grove Middle School Theater allows younger eagles to grow their interests, and eventually be a part of something potentially bigger. The next step for these students will be sharing their talents in high school for the years to come.
