At Fair Grove High School, the seniors have the opportunity to join the A+ program. The A+ program is a scholarship opportunity for seniors to get two years free at certain colleges in the surrounding area.
The scholarship opportunity that the seniors get has qualifications to do the A+ program. They need to have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, as well as attendance 95% or higher. The seniors that are in the A+ program get to go down to the elementary, or the middle school to get to their class that they are assigned to and help out around the classroom. They also only have to do the A+ program for half a school year to get their credits.
Tobie Garcia (12), who has been participating in the A+ program since the beginning of first semester said, “I absolutely love the A+ program and appreciate the school having it.” She also shared how she likes how the program helps students to see things from a teacher’s perspective and even possibly help with students that are wanting to become a teacher in the future.
Some students have created a bond with the students in their A+ class. Sophia Brumfield (12) stated, “I’ve grown good relationships with all my kids, when I see them in public they recognize me and it’s my favorite thing.” Students have also said how they have a good relationship with their A+ kids, in and out of school.
Garcia also commented about her connections and bonds that she has with her students. She said, “I have made many connections with my students and teacher, we always talk about how I am doing with my sports but also asking them how they are and comforting them when they don’t feel good.”
Some students will do the A+ program to help cultivate their own opportunities, but their college may not take the program credit like student Jayden Rice (12). Rice explained how being able to work with kids is a good opportunity for students in the A+ program, but unfortunately, his college does not accept the A+ program.
A+ is an educational outlet for opportunities, relationships, and future career success. Fair Grove students have been excelling, and using this program as a wonderful opportunity given for their future ahead.
