Katie Fender, a middle school science teacher and volleyball coach, has been teaching at Fair Grove for five years. Her passion for education and her hometown is evident in everything she does.
Before joining the Fair Grove community, Fender taught 6th grade at Branson, and prior to that, she taught two-year-olds at a child development center and developed curriculum. She stated, “Fair Grove is my home. When I was living in Branson, I knew it was temporary-I have always been passionate about my hometown.”
While also teaching middle school science, she coaches junior high volleyball. She expressed the joy that coaching volleyball gives her, and how instilling a love for the game in her players and spending time with them is something she loves.
Fender’s love for Fair Grove extends beyond her teaching and coaching roles. She is deeply invested in the community and appreciates the support that comes with being part of a small town. Fender expressed, “Fair Grove is truly a special place! The students are kind and welcoming, my coworkers feel like family, and the administration is incredibly supportive.”
As a middle school science teacher, Fender strives to make science as engaging for her students as possible. Her favorite part of teaching is getting to know her students and sharing her passion for science. She stated, “It truly feels like the best of both worlds.” She expressed how honored she feels to help students explore how intricate and amazing the world around us is. Fender’s enthusiasm for science is contagious, and her students appreciate her hands-on approach to learning.
Overall, Fender is very passionate about her job, including science and volleyball. She will continue to teach at Fair Grove and says, “My hope is to inspire students to stay curious and realize just how powerful their minds can be.”
As Fender continues to inspire and educate her students, it’s clear that she’s found a true home in Fair Grove, which fuels her passion for teaching and coaching.
