Fair Grove Middle School hosts FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes), on Thursday mornings at 7:20 am. This club focuses on serving local communities by engaging, equipping and empowering coaches and athletes to unite, inspire, and change the world through the gospel.
Lindsay Martin, the middle school science teacher, has been a part of FCA for the past 12 years. During her time in FCA she stated, “I’ve watched many students’ confidence grow exponentially and I’ve witnessed their desire to learn how to grow into a kind and loving person.”
Middle school FCA also has a co-sponsor, Kasey Sekulic, Mrs. Sekulic is the middle school math teacher at Fair Grove Schools. Throughout her time in FCA she stated that, “My favorite thing about FCA is the encouragement I get from the many students who choose to show up early to school each week to share and learn about Jesus.
Mrs. Sekulic added a few more of her favorite things about FCA being, seeing the students show up every week, smiling and happy to be at school early, joining hands in prayer, listening intently, and that students sharing their faith is amazing to witness.
FCA uses a website with resources for the meeting they hold. This website supplies the lessons that can be used in small groups and led by students.
Students are invited to speak if they are interested in doing so, which Mrs. Sekulic explained, “… FCA allows them to share their thoughts on topics of their choosing.” Oftentimes the speaker feels a nudge or tug to share about something that is on their heart and mind.
A few ways students in FCA have shown leadership is by leading small groups in discussion or prayers, some by their actions throughout each week putting the lessons taught into action. Other students show leadership by taking initiative and inviting others to join FCA, and leading in prayers.
Mrs. Sekulic mentioned a few of the members of middle school FCA and how they have shown leadership, “A few specific examples include Olivia Broyles (8) who is always willing to lead a prayer, and Malachia Cavanaugh (8) who is always answering questions and sharing his thoughts, willing to put himself out and be vulnerable.”
A few other students Mrs. Sekulic mentioned include Wyatt Cantrell (8), and Kaleb Kane (8). Both of these students have shown leadership with how they embrace each meeting with a smile, invite others to join, and go all in on outreach activities.
Middle school FCA hopes to provide an opportunity for students to gather and share their love for Jesus as well as their walk in faith each Thursday morning.
