Kim Boatwright is an elementary school teacher at Fair Grove, who has been teaching for seven and a half years. Beside being the beloved kindergarten teacher Mrs. Boatwright is known to be, she has other professions outside of teaching kids too.
Boatwright shared her classroom atmosphere, “I love making learning fun with a lot of hands-on activities. One of my favorite Fair Grove traditions is the Halloween parade.”
Boatwright continued, “We have center time, where the kids have time to play each day. I love to change our center stations to match out weekly units. In our room we have had a pumpkin patch, a skating rink, a bake shop, and many more fun activities.
Boatwright was a student at SouthWest Minnesota University. She had taken upon herself to have more than one major. Boatwright stated, “I went to SMSU and majored in elementary education, however I decided to change majors and ended up graduating with an associates degree.” Boatwright continued, “I worked in the medical field for several years. Life happened, and I had an opportunity to go back into education and now I can’t imagine doing anything else.”
Mrs. Boatwright is known to fill her classroom with positivity and safety. Toni Robertson, a fellow elementary teacher, expressed, “Mrs. Kim’s classroom is encouraging and supportive, the students feel safe and loved. Mrs. Kim makes her students feel valued, respected, and encourages them to participate.”
Boatwright strives to not just make her classroom fun but also really feel for her students. Mrs. Robertson added, “Mrs. Kim is more than a teacher, she is a monitor and supporter for all her students. She goes above and beyond to make a difference in her student’s lives.
Boatwright shared what motivates her to teach, “I always loved working with kids. My philosophy is; I treat my students how I would want my own children and now my grandgirls treated.”
