Fair Grove Schools have recently introduced students 6th-12th grades to the Yondr pouches. The pouches are for students to put their cell phones, apple watches, and air pods in throughout the school day, and are unable to access their devices during school hours.
Atticus Brandes (12) said, “At first I was uncertain about the pouches.” Some other students were as well. Chasten Hale (10) said his first reaction to hearing about the pouches was that it was a ridiculous idea.
Brandes said that he chooses to keep his phone in his vehicle now due to the fact the pouches have been enforced. Hale says his opinion on it stayed the same due to the fact he never really used his phone other than during lunch.
Hale said “One positive thing that I have seen from these pouches is that there’s definitely less drama circulating around the school.”
Hale believes a negative in this situation involving the pouches would be the student parent communication. Hale said, “It’s a lot harder for students to reach their parents at school.” With having to walk to the schools office and the possibilities of the parent not being able to answer at such times, the communication between the two are off balanced.
Brandes said something he would consider being a negative in this situation is, “Not being able to access project ideas for classes like art.”
Though there may be a few negatives, a positive that Brandes had seen was the social interactions with other people.
