Fair Grove High School gives students the opportunity to take classes online that are not offered in person, using a program called “Launch”.
The Launch Classes are administered by the In School Suspension instructor and Track and Field Throwing Coach Brain Neumann. Neumann explained, “My favorite part of being the teacher in charge of the Launch room is the ability to help my students with a variety of subjects and my students are awesome people.”
Neumann claimed that his biggest challenge was finding a good motivational tool to encourage students, while keeping his room an inviting space. He stated, “This room is such an interesting room to run with it being split between ISS and Launch courses. I wanted my students to not only be rewarded for completing their work but to also be excited to come to my class.”
As a teacher, Neumann believes that Launch courses are very beneficial to the Fair Grove School district. He stated, “These courses give our students the amazing opportunity to take courses that we do not offer. Students being able to get a head start on their college courses and follow a more ‘university model’ of teaching is such an amazing opportunity for our students.”
Addyson Nunley (11) is currently taking a Dual Credit Physics course on Launch. She explained that her favorite aspect of Launch is being able to work at her own pace. Launch does not have a hard deadline, so students can turn assignments in when they’re ready. Nunley enjoys not having the stress of needing to turn assignments in on time.
Students recommend Launch courses for many different reasons. Nunley stated, “You can work on your own time and launch offers so many more classes online than Fair Grove does in person. You also have options to take these classes over the summer, which can help with getting extra credits you need.”
Samuel Moore (11) is currently taking an English II and a science course on Launch. He explained that he recommends Launch courses for their efficiency and opportunities. He loves being able to work ahead and having a little free time to spare.
Jaysun Tucker (11) is currently taking General Biology and Geometry. He stated that he recommends Launch courses to people that want to have more flexibility with their schedule and time to work on other classwork.
