On February 14th, Fair Grove Elementary celebrated the holiday of love. Students in grades first through fourth grade created Valentine boxes to receive and gift cards to each other as an annual activity. Classes all through the elementary had their parties and celebrated the holiday of Valentine’s Day.
Fourth grade teacher, Kelly Elgin, was super excited for her class’s Valentines Day party. Elgin stated, ¨I’m grateful to the class parents for their generous donations, which helped me purchase all necessary supplies.¨
PreK teacher, Kim Boatwright, exclaimed, ¨My favorite part of the Valentines party is seeing how excited the kids are when they go through their Valentine box! They read the names on the Valentines and actually know who the Valentines are from.¨ Each student’s Valentine’s box can be creatively decorated with anything they’d like or have interest in.
Second grade teacher, Leslie Johnson, stated, ¨My favorite part of Valentine’s parties is watching the kids pass out and then open their Valentines. They get so excited and some of them are really so sweet.”
Kindergarten teacher, Michelle Graves, explained her classroom’s culture. “I love that Valentine’s day parties are more ‘low-key.’ They are light and fun! I always have amazing parents that help plan and put the parties together. So, I am primarily focused on creating fun learning activities for the day to help celebrate.¨
Elementary principal, Ryan Buffington, explained the environment during the holiday. ¨My favorite aspect of Valentine’s Day is observing the children exchange valentines. They offer compliments to one another and foster a supportive environment, demonstrating genuine affection.”
Buffington continued, “I also appreciate the creativity involved in the Valentine’s Day boxes that the students and their parents create; the variety is truly impressive. Non-classroom teachers also play a vital role by signing in parents and monitoring visitors.”
Buffinton continued, “Any celebration in the elementary school setting is always enjoyable to be a part of and carries a sense of magic.”
