On February 5, 2025, the 3rd graders at Fair Grove Elementary went off to career day. This event is organized and run by elementary counselor, Angla Hollingsworth.
One of the biggest contributors of the 3rd grade career day is Hollingsworth. She is the person who plans and runs all of the career days at Fair Grove. Hollingsworth stated, “Each year, I organize a career day for each grade level and a career day field trip for our 4th graders.”
Hollingsworth thinks it is important to introduce the kids to different careers. Hollingsworth stated, “It’s important because I introduce our young students to a variety of career options, sparking their curiosity about different professions and helping them identify potential interests and skills. Career Days help students to begin to envision their future career paths by exposing them to real-world professionals from diverse fields within our community.”
Students spent 15 minutes at each station. At these stations, they listened to a speaker talk about their job and ask any questions they had. The speakers talked about what all consists of their jobs, what tools or pieces of equipment they use, and about the educational requirements for their career field. After the students are done asking questions and listening to the speaker talk, they move on to the next station and speaker.
There were many volunteers that came and taught the kids about their jobs and what it takes to do everything that would be involved. Many of them were from our community. Hollingsworth said, “We have an amazing community and it’s never difficult to find parents and community members to come and share about their jobs, including the educational requirements and job responsibilities, with our students.”
