Canyon Crowley is a track and field runner at Fair Grove High School and holds multiple school track records. He is graduating this year and is committed to Wichita State University to continue on his track career. Crowley currently runs track under the supervision of high school boys track coach Michael Zanzie. Zanzie explained how Crowley has used his past track years to benefit the team, “Canyon contributes many things to the team. His experience alone is something that he can provide the team with. His work ethic is unmatched.”
As an athlete, Crowley has been running track for most of his life. “I have been running since a little kid, so I’ve probably been running for around 13 years,” Crowley shared.
Crowley plans to continue running track in college and has signed to go to Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas. Crowley explained, “I signed with them because I really liked the coaching staff and their great track program that they have.”
Crowley is doing many events this year in track as he has in past years. Zanzie said, “He has run everything from the 100, 200, 400, 4×100, 4×200, and 4×400. He even helped our team last year at our conference meet by winning the long jump. It was the first time he had done that event.”
As a senior Crowley helps the team by being a leader by example. Zanzie mentioned, “Sometimes when you have a very high level athlete they tend to use that god given ability to take time off knowing they are at the top. Canyon comes in everyday and attacks each day with his full potential. He is constantly trying to strive and get better, push himself more and see where his potential weaknesses are to improve.”
Fellow runner Carson Trussell (12) shared how Crowley’s character positively affects the people around him, “Canyon is a super eccentric guy. He has an energy about him that makes anyone around him laugh. I think my favorite memory with Canyon is talking with him about shooting his first elk with his dad. He’s got talent and passion and that’s all you need to be successful.”
Multiple Fair Grove High School records are currently held by Crowley and he plans to work towards breaking more, “I have the record for the 200 with 21.7 seconds, and I also have the record for the 400 with a time of 48.4 seconds. I also have several relay records. I am hoping to break my records again this year.”
Even at a young age Crowley has involvement in track and has had interest in track for years. Zanzie shared, “I have only been a part of the track program for the past three years. However, I know that Canyon has been involved in track for a long time. Talking to him and his parents and seeing pictures, it is something that he has done since he was a little boy.”
