As the school year comes to an end the 2024-2025 Fair Grove Prom is right around the corner, the Fair Grove Prom Committee is planning and decorating to get Prom ready for the students attending.
The Fair Grove Prom Committee, run by teacher sponsor Mrs. Amy Johnson, is a group of this year’s graduating seniors class who work together to focus on different elements that go into prom and the overall planning of it. Mrs. Johnson explained, “Students begin planning by selecting a few themes and letting the senior class vote on it. Then we talk about ideas for decorating – what to buy and what we can make. We have a stockpile of past decorations to help keep costs low.”
Picking out a prom theme can be one of the most crucial and important parts of the dance all together. With this knowledge in mind the committee wanted to do their best to pick a theme that everyone was interested in.
Amber Clemens (12) explained, “The possible themes we had were all based around a forest or garden area, with one also being a big city with lights. When it came down to voting, the voting was 50% secret guardian and 50% big city and lights. Mrs. Johnson decides to combine the two ideas and do Twilight in Central Park.”
Planning and decorating is only the beginning of what the prom committee does to make sure upperclassmen not only make lasting memories, but look back on the one’s before. This applies especially for seniors as prom can symbolize a way for them to have a chance to take a look back on their accomplishments and achievements throughout their high school years and simply celebrate everything they have become.
“Prom is important for the students at Fair Grove High School because the upper class men socialize with one another and make memories that they will one day look back on and say ‘those were the good ol’ days,” Clemens stated.
Clemens added, “Prom also kind of in a way symbolizes the ending of the school year. For seniors it’s their last high school dance ever, and having it at the end of the year serves as a sort of celebration of the accomplishments the seniors have made.”
This year Fair Grove prom will be held on April 26th at the DoubleTree Hotel from 7-10pm, with the entry fee being $35. The theme of the dance will be Twilight in Central Park, as upperclassmen are eligible to come, dress up, and have the night of their lives as they reflect and remember their high school lives and the future beyond it.
