The Fair Grove School Store class recently brought in the third grade class to teach them about effective market strategies. The reasoning for this collaboration is to help the students with selling slap bracelets to other elementary students for their Economics unit.
Cayse Overstreet, the marketing teacher, explained, “The 3rd grade class creates slap bracelets each year for their Economics unit. They break up into teams and design, create, promote, and sell their bracelets to the elementary school students.” With the students breaking up into groups to learn each strategy, the students are expected to learn the ways of marketing and use each skill towards their slap bracelet market.
There are four groups of school store students working together in different branches of marketing. The different branches being, marketing, merchandise, production, and operations. Each group has their own responsibility of teaching the younger students what the section is and why it is important.
Brylee Mallard (10) is on the operations team. This team is in charge of teaching the students how important it is to keep the store clean, along with learning barcoding and how to treat customers. Mallard says, “I think this will be a great opportunity for both groups (3rd graders and School Store employees). As School Store Employees we will be able to create more knowledge about the store… and hopefully help to create excitement about this class. For the 3rd graders we will be able to help them learn outside of the normal classroom setting which can be so important.”
The reasoning behind this event is to help teach the 3rd grade class the concept of marketing outside of the classroom. The 3rd grade students did hands-on activities to help learn how to properly sell their bracelets. Jaelynne Hunt (12) explained, “This helps them learn about effective marketing strategies in fun and engaging ways.”
Overstreet expressed, “We are super excited for this opportunity.” This event was run by all school store employees but was mostly led by assistant managers along with some others who work in the school store.
