As the school year is coming to an end, Fair Grove High School held an event that is dedicated to awarding students who have shown up in class and worked hard to achieve their goals and receive rewards.
This event was held on May 7, 2025 from 6:30-7:00 located in the high school gym. Many students from freshman to seniors received awards presented by their teachers. High school principal, Christian Overstreet, mentioned, “The ceremony is a night that we can recognize and celebrate all of the hard work our students have put in over the year. This includes, but is not limited to, teachers recognizing their top students, senior scholarship recognitions, seniors graduating with Latin Honors, etc.”
Bailey Weaver, high school English teacher, was one of the many teachers to hand out awards. Weaver explained, “The English department gave all their awards together. It was really nice because Mr. Florez spoke for all of us, and we were able to give our students their awards and congratulate them!”
Weaver continued, “I gave an award for each section of the courses I teach. I chose award winners based on a few things: grade percentage, number of missing assignments, quality of work completed, and overall positive attitude towards learning and growing in English class. This is my first year at FGHS, so I haven’t given awards before, but I enjoyed celebrating my students in front of their families and peers.”
Stephanie Brown, high school art teacher, was another teacher who passed out awards at awards night. Brown said, “I choose based on a couple of things, I look at grade percentages, consider the complexity of the artwork, and evaluate how much time and effort a student put into their pieces throughout the year.”
Brown continued, “I usually give two awards to my Art 1 classes because there are two sections. Drawing and Painting receive two awards as well, along with Advanced Art. Mixed Media and Ceramics each receive one. So, I passed out several awards.”
Teachers give out awards for a variety of reasons but they are all showing appreciation for their hardworking and dedicated students.
