As the 2024-2025 school year comes to an end, A+ will also conclude its program for the second semester of this school year. A+ is a program offered to the senior class which will grant them a scholarship for two years of free schooling from a select group of schools.
Lindsay Dunning, the high school teacher for both chemistry and biology as well as the S.A.D.D. sponsor, stated when reading students who participated in the A+ program’s reflections, “… there was a recurring theme. All of them were surprised by how much they really love being in their classrooms.” She continued to explain that many of the students had created incredible bonds with the children in their assigned classes.
Atticus Brandes (12) said that during his time in A+, “A+ has positively impacted me this semester with my overall mood. I really enjoy my time in the classroom.”
The A+ program also provides life skills that students can use in their lives even after high school. Dunning explained that students in the A+ program have to fill out timesheets, these record the time they are in their assigned classrooms, similarly to how they might have to in a job someday.
Keith Nolan (12) expressed his reason for being a part of the A+ program, “I chose to be a part of the A+ program because I wanted to help a teacher in need.”
A few other responsibilities that come with being in this program is that students have to follow the instructions and requests of their supervising teachers. In addition they also have to continually practice patience with young students and be flexible to do whatever is needed.
When reflecting on his time in A+ Nolan stated that, “My favorite memory from A+ was watching my class, the 6th grade band, play at their first concert.” It was so rewarding to see how far they have come”
Aside from the benefit of two free years of college education, Nolan mentioned he has found benefit participating in the program this semester, “I will benefit from this because I have gotten to make so many new relationships with younger students.” Nolan continued to express his hope for being a positive impact to the children.
The A+ program is an amazing opportunity Fair Grove offers to students granting them the opportunity of two years free of college education expenses and in addition allows students to grow connections and guide the future generation.
