With a 19-5 record, the Fair Grove Softball team made it to the second round of districts this year and had an overall successful season. Despite starting their season with a new coach, they’ve continued to grow stronger each week.
This season marked the start for the new head coach Bill Voorhis, with help from assistant coach Kelli Buffington. Transitioning to a new coach could be a challenge for any team, but the Fair Grove softball team stepped up and worked hard to meet expectations, showing determination from day one.
Voorhis said, “Our biggest challenge was overcoming a new coach and all the changes that come with that. The girls did extremely well. We have continued to get better each week.” The team’s ability to embrace change and focus on their goals made a big difference in their performance.
One major part of the team’s success this year was their senior leadership. Voorhis continued, “The standard is set really high by this group of seniors, I just want us to continue to play at that standard.” Their influence set the tone for the whole team, helping to create an encouraging environment.
Brooke Daniels, Meadow Carter, Gracie Crandall, and Gretta Morris were the four seniors on the team. They have all helped to create a positive environment that helped the team to perform at their best all season long. Each senior brought something special, whether it was leadership, encouragement, or consistency, and helped strengthen the team as a whole. They will leave big shoes to fill, but also a lasting impression for the younger players to look up to.
Aubrie Voorhis (10), a current player on the team, reflected, “We had a great season,” she continued, “some goals I had were to make it out of districts.”
While the team’s run ended in the second round of districts, the season was very successful. With a strong record, impressive team spirit, and clear improvement throughout the year, the girls have a lot to be proud of. They battled hard, celebrated each victory, and grew as both athletes and teammates.
As the seniors move on and the underclassmen prepare to step up, the foundation laid this season will continue to carry the program forward. The future is bright for Fair Grove softball, and the team will continue to swing for success.
