On Saturday, April 26th, students came together for one of the most exciting nights of the school year: Prom. This year’s Prom theme was Twilight in Central Park, and students worked very hard to make the night a success.
Amy Johnson, teacher in the history department at Fair Grove High School and who is in charge of Prom, helps guide the Prom Committee each year. She is also the National Honor Society Advisor, and works closely with students to make this event a success. “We spend several weeks making plans for decorations/ordering supplies and making decorations,” Johnson said.
Johnson continued, “We have some basics that we use over and over, but we like to make the centerpieces specialized to the theme.”
The theme itself is chosen by the senior class. Seniors that volunteer for the prom committee are able to propose different theme ideas, and then the class votes on which one they like best. This year’s winning theme was Twilight in Central Park, and it brought a dreamy New York feel right into Fair Grove.
Kaia Joppa (12), a student who attended Prom and is also involved in the Prom Committee, shared, “It was awesome to see everyone having a good time and dancing! I couldn’t believe how packed the dance floor was.” She also added that her favorite part of the whole night was the announcement of Prom King and Queen, “Everyone looked so gorgeous. It was a great night.”
Preparations for Prom took only a few hours on the day of, but the Prom Committee had already spent weeks leading up to the date to make sure every little detail matched the theme and that everything went smoothly. From decorations to lighting to music, they spent the time working on it. The Prom Committee worked hard to transform the space and make it look beautiful, giving students a night to remember.
Many students attending go all out with fancy dresses, tuxedos, and pictures. While none of it is required, it adds to the experience and excitement of the night. Tickets bought by the students helped cover the cost of the DJ, snacks, drinks, decorations, and rental fees.
As seniors graduate and juniors look forward to next year, Prom 2025 will be one of the many highlights of this year. Thanks to the hard work of the Prom Committee and Johnson, Prom 2025 was truly a night to remember.
