The Fair Grove Middle School Football team started their season on September 11, 2025 against Springfield Catholic.
Middle School Football has been thought of as a great experience for young players. William Reed, the Middle School Football Assistant Coach, stated, “The first 10 practices focused mostly on offensive and defensive fundamentals. It is really important to have great technique in such a physically demanding sport.”
Reed continued, “We are now beginning to work on game planning toward our first opponent Springfield Catholic. We will continue to work on team aspects that will be important to winning football games.”
Head Coach, Marc Green, sees great commitment in the team and believes his players are practicing very hard for their upcoming season. Green also said his players are very excited for their games to come.
Green said, “We are excited about our team this year. We have quite a few returning 8th graders and our 7th grade team is eager to get going. I look forward to seeing how Brock Baxter (8) and Campbell Evans (8) work together in the backfield on offense for our 8th grade team.”
The team has a total of 22 eighth graders, and 26 seventh graders. Each year the team loses the eighth graders as they move up to the high school team and the middle school team has to make adjustments to accommodate. Green said that the middle school football teams and their coaches are accustomed to losing the eighth graders, and are able to overcome the challenges that come with it. Each year they make sure to prepare the seventh graders to fill the spots of the past eighth grades. To prepare the seventh graders they have games where the seventh graders are the only ones on the field.
The team has six upcoming games, one of the games they are most excited about is their game against Strafford. Reed said that the match up against Strafford’s football team is always fun at any level of play
Reed said that their team is very competitive and excited for their upcoming season. The team is putting in work to prepare and are excited to represent Fair Grove Middle School as they progress through their football season. Reed also said that the team is happy to continue the tradition of middle school football as the eighth graders move on to high school football.
