The Fair Grove High School Football Team kicked off the early 2025 season with a record of 3-1, earning those three wins against Mountain Grove, Hollister, and Buffalo.
The team’s positive record can be attributed to their intensive early morning offseason preparation. Left tackle, Dylan George (12), shared, “The grind of the off-season has conditioned and hardened the guys to the physical struggles of the game.”
In addition, kicker Gavin Brock (12) emphasized, “The offseason work our team puts in is unmatched. We get up early and practice hard every day, working hard and conditioning to be in as good a shape as possible.”
Last season’s team made history after ending in a second place finish at the 2024 Class 2 State Championship. The football team lost last year’s seniors, who made up many of the key players, creating big shoes to fill and a high standard to live up to. George said, “I think the senior class as a whole set a bar to meet with their talent and work ethic, but I believe we have a team that is capable of carrying the Fair Grove Football legacy forward.”
With the last season behind them, it is time for some new athletes to step into the spotlight to lead their team.
Head football coach, weights instructor, and PE teacher, Bill Voorhis, stated, “We have several seniors this year who are going to be key players for us. Carson Trussell, Dylan George and Adrick Wilson are all two way starters for us this year at the skill positions and Gage Green, Cayden Hartnett, Luke Trehal and Nolan Dorsey are returning seniors on the offensive line.”
The new seniors and the team as a whole has been working hard to prepare for this season. They understand it will be much different from years past due to the shift in talent on the field, but are sure they can overcome it. George expressed, “I expect that we will face plenty of adversity as the season progresses, but I have confidence in this group of guys to band together when hardship hits.”
As the team continues to work hard and the season progresses, there will be many games to look forward to. Most of the team is looking forward to playing the schools that have changed classes and the rival to Fair Grove Schools. Brock said, “This year I am looking forward to playing against Strafford as that game is always pretty hype. I am also looking forward to playing Clever on the day of the Fall Festival.”
The next game will be played at Fair Grove against Clever on September 27.
